Become a Member

ISSA Austin is the Texas Chapter of the International Information Systems Security Association (ISSA).

We are a not-for-profit organization with a mission of “Developing and Connecting Austin’s Cybersecurity Leaders.”

We are connected to the global Cybersecurity community of associations, educational institutions, and publications, locally and globally. We do this by providing Chapter Meetings each month, educational forums, publications, and peer interaction opportunities that enhance the knowledge, skill, and professional growth of our members.

ISSA is the community of choice for international cybersecurity professionals dedicated to advancing individual growth, managing technology risk and protecting critical information and infrastructure. To learn more about ISSA, or to become a member, visit issa.org.

Our Chapter

The primary purpose of the ISSA Capitol of Texas Chapter is to PROMOTE business practices that will ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information resources and to EDUCATE and ENHANCE the knowledge, skill, and professional growth of its members and the information security community. Our ISSA Austin chapter is led by 10 board members.

Our mission

The objectives of the ISSA Capitol of Texas Chapter are to:

  • educate and enhance the knowledge and skills of its members and the community in the interrelated fields of information systems security and information data processing;
  • encourage an open exchange of information security techniques, approaches, and problem solving by its members and the community;
  • provide communication to keep members abreast of current events in information processing and security, providing benefits to them and their employers; and,
  • communicate to business leaders, and to systems and information processing professionals the importance of establishing controls necessary to ensure the secure organization and utilization of information processing resources.

Our activity

The ISSA Austin Capitol of Texas Chapter organizes a number of security events, including:

  • Monthly chapter meetings - during which we typically invite speakers to address different security issues. The topics vary from non-technical (leadership, compliance, metrics, security awareness) to highly technical (deep dives on specific technologies). The meetings also provide great networking opportunities with other Information Security professionals in the Austin area.
  • Training Events are held regularly to give a deep-dive training to chapter members. These events are generally limited in attendance (50 - 80) and normally free to members.
  • Special Interest Groups (SIG’s) are groups within Denver ISSA that promote a focused view of Information Security within an industry vertical. Examples of these SIG’s are Finance, Government, Healthcare, Oil & Gas, and Women In Security. These groups meet in a variety of settings and for lengths of time of up to a half-day. This allows for topics to be explored in depth.
  • Happy hours are held intermittently to give members the opportunity to socialize. These events have no formal agenda, other than meeting and networking with other security professionals. These events are held throughout the metro area.
